Free Parking for Electric Vehicles

Tuesday, 16 February, 2021

Conservative Councillor David Burton led the call for free parking for electric vehicles across the borough of Maidstone at last week's Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Committee meeting at Maidstone Borough Council.

Cllr. David Burton welcomed the decision; “Not only is this a positive for the environment, but for those who are commuting and parking in Maidstone this represents a real cost saving, which we hope will help more than offset the extra cost of buying an electric vehicle. This is one of a number of measures Conservatives are leading on to encourage more electric vehicles on to our roads and make our air cleaner.”

Cllr. John Perry, Leader of the Conservative Group on Maidstone Borough Council comments, 'Nationally, Conservatives are calling for a green revolution, regaining control of Maidstone Borough Council at the local elections in May will mean we continue to drive this work locally, from planting more trees in our borough to initiatives to promote use of electric vehicles.  We know many residents rely on the convenience of their cars but want to do more to tackle air quality and protect the environment.'

The Conservative government has pledged that everyone in England will be within 30 miles of an electric vehicle charging point by 2050, as well as committing funding into research and development of low and zero emission technology.
